---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flameout ReviewHeart disease tops the list of killers, and all the things involved (plaque, left ventricle thickening, stiff blood vessels, hypertension, etc.) are caused or exacerbated by excess inflammation. Fish oil quenches that fire. Those same anti-inflammatory properties may also help prevent ischemic strokes – when a clot blocks blood flow to the brain. Fish oil may also help lower the risk of cancer development. Studies are mixed (and this may have something to do with the dosages used) but most studies lean toward saying that omega-3 fatty acids could inhibit tumor formation/growth and modulate immune function. For mental health, depression and anxiety are linked to an omega-3 deficiency hampering the production and function of neurotransmitters. While depression is a many-headed dragon, fish oil (along with magnesium) may help sharpen our swords against it. Now, you won't reap these benefits and potential benefits by taking one daily capsule of fish oil you bought at Walmart. It takes a strong dose, with most successful studies using 2000 mg or more. Biotest's Flameout contains 4200 mg of fish oil per 3-softgel dose. Additionally, omega-3 fatty acids activate brown fat cells by interacting with a receptor called GPR120, which triggers the release of a hormone (FGF21) that boosts energy burning. Omega-3s also increase the expression of genes like UCP1, which helps cells burn fat for heat instead of storing it. Plus, chronic inflammation suppresses the browning of white fat, so taking plenty of high-dose, inflammation-squashing fish oil helps reverse this. Fatty acid supplements typically contain more EPA than DHA. Why? Because fish naturally contain more EPA than DHA. That’s fine for females because the biosynthesis of DHA is a lot higher in women than it is in men. DHA reduces triglycerides and blood pressure, and according to at least one study, increases HDL (the good cholesterol) by a whopping 29%. In contrast, EPA decreases HDL by 6.7%. The problem is men have a much higher risk of heart disease. Men also have lower amounts of DHA, despite eating the same amount of fatty acids as women. As such, men need more DHA than EPA. Flameout fish oil is still an excellent choice for women, but unlike other omega-3 supplements, it’s formulated specifically for the physiology needs of men. DHA Benefits
